• [UPDATE] –

Serg EM1EHR has planned a virtual tour of the Vernadsky Antarctic station. If everything works out, the excursion will take place on Saturday, February 13 @ 19:00 (Kyiv time). Those interested can join the tour via this link (thanks to Vitalii UR5HUX for info).

  • [JANUARY 9] –

Serg EM1EHR reported that today, for the first time, Andrii EM1UTQ (UT3UTQ) went on air from the Vernadsky station. In three hours he made QSOs with all continents. Documents for obtaining the LoTW certificate have been sent. Picture of sunrise this morning.

  • [JANUARY 8] –

Vitalii UR5HUX got in touch to say that Serg, EM1U makes announcements when he is QRV on his Telegram channel (not everyone has Telegram but you can download here, then find Serg’s group here). There’s a real-time discussion of his current work on air with reports on radio propagation and other aspects of his work. He also posts interesting photos. According to Vitalii, Serg will report interesting news soon. “Expect announcements”, he says.

  • [OCTOBER 9, 2023] –

Serg, UW5EHR is now active as EM1U from Vernadsky Research Base, Antarctica. Briefly he was QRV as VP8/UW5EHR, but now uses the correct callsign. Pavlo UT1KY (ex-EM1KY, VP8/UT1KY) got in touch to say:

Today, at UT1KWA Club Station, I had the opportunity to work on the air with the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadskyi, EM1U. Operator Serhiy (UW5EHR) operates from the Club Station at Vernadsky. We ran 14MHz and 21MHz in FT8 emissions.

Of interest, here’s a You Tube channel showing good filming in and around Vernadski Base. One video – below – showing antenna installation from 2022 by previous radio operator, Sergiy UT9UX.
