We plan to activate Peter I Island in February 2027 with a team of 19 operators. We will go to Peter I with a large vessel and two helicopters, and the DXpedition will be led by an external expedition leader from an Antarctica Expedition company – Spirit of Sydney. The capacity of the expedition leader and the vessel have been reviewed and approved by Norwegian Polar Institute and is the basis for the landing permit we received in April 2024.
Our expedition leader has supported more than 80+ expeditions to Antarctica and has previously landed on Peter I three times. With the landing permit and external resources involved, we’re ready to move forward signing the contracts.
It should be noted that the total cost of this expedition is approximately $2,000,000, including all logistics, marine, aviation, insurance, safety and rescue, and Antarctica permits. Our website will be updated to reflect the changes. At the time of activation in 2027 it will be 21 years since the last DXpedition to this island.
Several Antarctic Treaty governments (including my native South Africa and Australia where I now live) presently pushing for immediate total ban on non-essential (i.e. tourist) helicopter use in Antarctica for various important environmental reasons.
A tourist/ham-radio visit to Peter I Island using helicopters is thus almost certain to be dead in the water come 2027, so it’s a non-starter already.
Might be able to get away with it at Bouvet Island because it is a Norwegian territory but south of 60 degrees South in the area where the Antarctic Treaty applies, may as well forget it.
I think too short time to collect 2M $…better you wait and go there 2046. Till then you will collect more money and all donators will be dead.
Bouvet / Peter1 website suddenly vanished ?
Is it ‘Çurtains!’ or is it ‘Showtime!’ ?
“Bun-Fight at the ØK Corral” now showing at selected cinemas, is my guess. Pass the popcorn & peanuts, please!
I’m not sure they look like they are top of their game for such a location, but listen, good luck with it and look forward to hearing you or someone from the £2m location. Please no ft8, hate reading about how hard a time someone’s computer had exchanging a couple of ones and zero for a millisecond. Keep it real.
$2,000,000 ? Hmm, I like DXing, but $2,000,000 sure would go a long way to help educate young and impoverished students in Myanmar who are trying to gain an education in a war-zone. 5 millon kids are missing out an education, many teachers imprisoned and worse.
Sorry to bring politics into this, but being at the ‘sharp end’ of education in Myanmar (I return to that country in 2 weeks to continue my educational charity work), I sometimes wonder if people with the ability to source $$$ have the best idea how to spend it 🙂
Nice dream or another 3Y nightmare? See comments on eHam.net DX Forums under ‘Peter 1 in 2027’.
GOOD LUCK. Good people.Good operators for SSB/CW. Cu on topband CW de SM6CVX Hans
Hi, Ken!
Nice dreams.
Dream 1: After Bouvet 750k$ failed DXpedition,
Dream 2: Bouvet #2 DXpeditio, failed – again without helicopter, c’mon. Sailboat again …
Dream 3: Peter I for 2M $… Please, be fair and recognize failure. For 2M $ – aircraft carrier, maybe??
RRS “D.Attenborough”??
Vy best, but it will be only a dream.
Where’s AA7JV? Send the RIBs! Isn’t that the whole idea, for difficult sites like Peter I?
2027??? Too short time, better you go 2037.
2.000.000$…are you so high?
Which drugs you use…something new?

Where does it say it is the Betanzos that they will be using??

Good luck to anyone willing to bet $25k+ of their own money that the Betanzos won’t break down this time! Landing permission from NPI is not
even essential – Peter I is well inside the Antarctic Treaty area and most countries (including the USA) do not even recognize Norway’s territorial claim, so literally anyone from an Antarctic Treaty signatory country can go there and operate legitimately, exactly same as on South Shetland Islands. Who knows, maybe some HF0 callsign will be QRV from Peter I before too long?
We can offer a ICE class vessel 45m+ with a R44 helicopter for any trip to Peter One or any other locations for half of this budget incl. 6 ex Navy seals crew who will do the landing job and setting camp for your group.

Deal incl. 6 x 5.5kw generators, 14 yaesu radios , 6 amplifiers ,3km of coax and Antarctic camping equipment supported.
