With ZD7SFU now QRT and back home in Japan, Shinji ZD7G continues to be very active (until November 22). Few days ago he was performing tests using RS-44 and was seeking QSOs. Today, we received an update:
ZD7G successfully communicated with Spain via satellite communication on RS-44. With guidance from EA4NF and his friends who contacted me after seeing info on DX World website, I was able to QSO with EA4NF at 9:08 UTC on November 12th. ZD7G plans to continue QRVing on RS-44 during daytimes.
Exotic new DXCC contacted today on RS-44 ️ with #ZD7G and @ZD7CTO in island️
1st QSO on LEO ️ for them

Shinji, JM1GDA (ZD7G) got in touch with DX-World and mentioned he is trying to communicate via satellite from St. Helena. He has successfully received beacons and performed loop tests using RS-44, and thinks it’s possible to communicate with Western Europe, Africa, and South America. If you have any ideas / suggestions, please post a comment here. Picture courtesy of Shinji.

Both ZD7G and ZD7SFU are quite active on the HF bands, mainly FT8 and some SSB. Here’s a picture taken today by Derek ZD7CTO, their island host:
- [NOVEMBER 2]
JM1GDA and JF3SFU have now arrived on St Helena. Look out for ZD7G & ZD7SFU during the next 3 weeks. Photo by host by ZD7CTO.
- [OCTOBER 4]
Operating from the QTH of ZD7CTO, look for Japanese ops JM1GDA and JF3SFU to be active from St Helena as ZD7G and ZD7SFU during November 2-22, 2024. QRV holiday-style on HF bands.
Hi! I have heard you on RS-44 on CW 13 November and today 14 November on SSB calling an IW7 station. I tried but you were constantly calling. I suggest you to do very short calls, QSO window time is very short. It’s much better to use CW than SSB. PLEASE I will be QRV for you on saturday 15 November at 0849 when RS-44 pass starts and satellite fingerprint allows contact.
